INFORMATION ON STARTING NEW CHAPTERS ON YOUR CAMPUS
The NBGSA Leadership team understands that our chapters are an integral part of our structure and success. The association is dedicated to assuring that our chapters and members foster their local environment in such a way that allows them to participate in national initiatives. The following guidelines provide you with a basic outline to beginning a chapter on your campus. Please contact your regional representative if you have additional questions. STEPS TO STARTING A NEW CHAPTER
1. Assemble at least 5 people on your campus interested in starting a chapter.
2. Schedule a meeting with an interest group to discuss positions and a vision for your chapter.
3. During your planning meeting, you should…
a. Elect/assign officers (President, Treasurer, Secretary, External & Internal VP).
b. Identify a faculty or staff person on your campus that can serve as Advisor.
c. Construct a chapter constitution & bylaws. (There are samples on the NBGSA website.)
d. Schedule a general assembly meeting or informational session.
e. Construct a list of campus units that can support your chapter financially.
f. Create a tentative list of programs and services your will offer your members.
g. Decide how you will advertise your meetings and programs.
4. Contact your NBGSA Regional representative to…
i. Obtain an affiliate packet.
ii. Provide chapter contact information.
iii. Communicate your chapter vision.
iv. Acquire any updated national news you can provide to your membership.
