DISSERTATION AWARD: AERA DISSERTATION GRANT

Dear Doctoral Students:

I encourage you to think about submitting a proposal for an AERA Dissertation Grant.

The next deadline is August 29.

I was a beneficiary of the program when I was a student, and it provided me with financial support and a network of national scholars while I was writing. Our most recent FSU awardee is SungHyun Cha who graduate this past Spring with a concentration in Educational Policy and Evaluation.

The program awards $15,000 grant for 1-year projects. You must use secondary national data sets provided by the federal government. Such data encompasses early childhood, K-12, and higher education. There is no "service" associated with the program other than completing your dissertation (which you are going to do anyway, right?)

Here's a bit more about the program -
The American Educational Research Association (AERA) invites education policy- and practice-related dissertation proposals using NCES, NSF, and other national data bases. Dissertation Grants are available for advanced doctoral students and are intended to support the student while writing the doctoral dissertation. Applications are encouraged from a variety of disciplines, such as but not limited to, education, sociology, economics, psychology, demography, statistics, and psychometrics.

Complete information can be found at www.aera.net/grantsprogram/res_training/diss_grants/DGFly.html

Be
sure to let your major professor read over your proposal and give you feedback before you submit.

Good luck!

- Lora
