The research associate is a professional staff member who will work with staff members of the Research &Evaluation Unit in support of the New Connections program. The research associate will work with program staff, primarily in the Human Capital portfolio, to ensure successful implementation of the reauthorization for the New Connections program. This includes conducting project and related research, working with key experts, assisting in designing and implementing new initiatives, evaluating proposals, and monitoring program and grants. The research associate is expected to demonstrate a passionate commitment to the Foundation’s mission as well as the mission of the New Connections program, which is to increase diverse perspectives to RWJF programming. This position will also work with the National Urban Fellows assigned to RWJF in support of the program.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Assists with management of the New Connections and other programs and with planning for future initiatives in Human Capital related to diversity.
- Manages and monitors grantee, alumni and applicant relations.
- Identifies and implements innovative strategies for promoting the New Connections program.
- Conducts library and internet searches on networks of scholars in multi-disciplinary fields to support New Connections grantees, alumni and applicants.
- Summarizes content of literature reviews.
- Monitors, tracks, learns from and reports on team initiatives and programs.
- Helps to synthesize findings from grantees and to disseminate findings from New Connections to RWJF Program Teams.
- Participates in staff presentations and presentations at policy, research and professional conferences.
- Assists with management of contracts and subcontracts with vendors for national meetings and training.
- Maintains data files and corresponding documentation of methods.
- Compiles, analyzes, confirms and summarizes primary and secondary data.
- Conducts literature reviews, develops and implements plans for disseminating the results of research, and assists in preparing and co-authoring articles, reports and presentations for internal and external use.
- Assists in coordinating external reviews for proposals and concept papers.
- Works with other RWJF departments to ensure successful launch of New Connections call for proposals.
- Gathers and synthesizes research for internal and external use, including producing clearly written products that integrate findings on diversity from external and RWJF funded projects and highlights lessons learned for internal and external audiences.
- Supports partnership with other national programs that target diversity including Active Living Research and Healthy Eating Research. • Performs duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree or equivalent education and experience in public health, public administration, health economics, and education or a related health, behavioral or social science field. Recent PhD preferred with personal experience in diversity and fellowship programs.
- Minimum two (2) years of related professional work experience with diversity programs, including programs to help increase the representation of historically under-represented groups, as well as working with alumni, fellows and scholars programs in monitoring, tracking and supporting networks.
- Demonstrated strong analytical skills and ability to synthesize and produce clearly written materials for multiple audiences.
- Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills; experience with SPSS, SAS or STATA helpful.
- Strong computing skills including use of Internet, MS Office Suite, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with research synthesis/review.
- Strong project and people management skills, including demonstrated ability to think independently, to be flexible and to juggle multiple priorities, and to be tolerant of ambiguity and differences in work approaches.
- Excellent written and electronic communication and oral presentation skills.
- Personally motivated to support the Foundation’s mission and goals as well as the goals of the New Connections program; creative, flexible; ability to work independently and interact effectively as part of a team and in multi-disciplinary teams and settings; to create and respond to novel and innovative approaches to addressing an issue; to inspire others to work towards achieving program goals.
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative and team environment.
- Good judgment and maturity. Ability to make decisions, justifies recommendations, and responds clearly with proposal applicants.
- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills; collegial, energetic, ability to develop productive relationships with colleagues, grantees, applicants, consultants, external funders and others who contribute to New Connections development and management.
- Ability to travel as required.
